What we collect and why
Newsletter subscribers
When you subscribe, we collect your email address. We use it only to send you the newsletter you opted into. We use double opt-in. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
Comment submissions
When you submit a comment, we collect your name and optionally your email address. Your email is stored as a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) — used only for Gravatar avatar lookup and spam detection, never displayed or shared.
Reader questions
When you submit a question via the Ask page, we collect your question text and optionally your name and email. Submitted questions may be published as editorial Q&A content.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console to understand how content is found and read. These tools collect anonymized page view data. We do not sell this data.
Affiliate link clicks
When you click an affiliate link, we record an aggregate click count for the link ID. We do not link clicks to individual users.
Cookies
We use first-party cookies only for authentication (admin users) and analytics (Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. EU visitors: by using this site you acknowledge our cookie use for analytics.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share data with:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider (EU/US hosted)
- SendGrid — our email delivery provider (subscriber emails only)
- Google — analytics and search console
- Gravatar — commenter avatars (we send the email hash, not the address)
Data retention
Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Comments are retained indefinitely unless you request removal. Analytics data follows Google's standard retention settings (14 months).
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing hello@smallbusinessaibible.com. EU/UK residents have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including data portability and the right to object to processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted at the top with an updated date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
