Zero-Click Search

A zero-click search is a search engine result where the user finds the answer directly on the search results page without clicking through to a website.

This phenomenon is driven by features like "featured snippets," knowledge panels, and direct answer boxes, often powered by AI's understanding of queries. For small businesses, it means that while ranking first is still important, the goal shifts slightly to providing concise, direct answers that Google can easily extract and display. Optimizing for zero-click search can still build brand authority and provide quick answers to potential customers, even if they don't visit your site directly.

Example

When a customer searches "hours for [local restaurant]," if the restaurant has provided clear data, Google might display the hours directly, making it a zero-click search.
