Escalation Path

An escalation path defines the process for transferring a customer's AI-handled query to a human agent or higher-level support.

In the context of AI customer service, an escalation path is a pre-defined route for when an automated system, like a chatbot, cannot resolve a customer's issue or when the situation requires human intervention. For small businesses, this ensures that customers always have a way to reach a person if their problem is complex, sensitive, or if the AI isn't understanding their request.

Establishing a clear escalation path is crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction when using AI. It might involve transferring the chat to a live agent, generating a support ticket for a human to follow up, or providing a phone number. This prevents customers from getting stuck in an AI loop and ensures seamless transition to human support when necessary.

Example

If a chatbot cannot answer a customer's complex billing question, the escalation path automatically transfers the chat to a live financial support agent.
